10mg Mounjaro Price vs Wegovy — What You Need to Know

If you're considering weight loss medication in the UK, you've likely come across both Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide). While 10mg Mounjaro is a mid-range maintenance dose, the cost of either medication varies significantly depending on whether you access it through the NHS or a private online prescription service. This guide explains pricing, how the two medications compare, and what factors affect your eligibility and cost. Use our free GLP-1 weight loss calculator to estimate potential outcomes at different doses, and our BMI calculator to check where you currently stand.

What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).

While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.

Below 18.5Underweight
18.5 – 24.9Healthy
25 – 29.9Overweight
30+Obese

The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.

How 10mg Mounjaro Compares to Wegovy in Price and Mechanism

10mg Mounjaro pricing in the UK typically ranges from £180–£280 per month through private online prescription services, depending on the provider and dose. At 10mg, you're on a maintenance or escalation dose — Mounjaro starts at 2.5mg and is titrated (increased) every 4 weeks up to a maximum of 15mg.

Wegovy costs are comparable, usually £150–£250 per month at the 2.4mg maintenance dose, though Wegovy requires a different escalation schedule (starting at 0.25mg and reaching 2.4mg over approximately 4 months).

Key mechanism difference: Mounjaro is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist — it activates two hormone pathways, which is why clinical trials (SURMOUNT-1) showed average weight loss of approximately 19.5% at 10mg. Wegovy is a GLP-1 agonist only, and STEP trials showed approximately 14.9% average weight loss at the maximum 2.4mg dose. Individual results vary significantly.

NHS pricing is irrelevant here — the NHS does not charge patients for prescription medications once prescribed. However, NHS access to either medication is limited to specialist tier 3/4 weight management services and varies greatly by region.

Eligibility, Prescriptions, and How to Access Each Medication

Both Mounjaro and Wegovy require a UK prescription from a licensed prescriber and a clinical assessment. You cannot buy either without a prescription, regardless of price.

Private access: If you don't have NHS specialist referral access (or waiting times are very long), you can obtain a private prescription through a GPhC-registered online pharmacy. A prescriber will assess your BMI (typically ≥27 with health conditions, or ≥30), medical history, and current medications. If approved, you'll receive a prescription and the medication is dispensed by the pharmacy.

Eligibility is personal: Your prescriber will decide which medication suits you based on your health profile, not price. Some people may be assessed as more suitable for one over the other. Both require commitment to lifestyle changes (reduced-calorie diet and physical activity) alongside the injection.

Every calculator and guide on myweightcheck is built with accuracy and transparency in mind. Our BMI calculator uses the standard WHO formula with NHS-aligned category thresholds. Our GLP-1 projections are modelled on published clinical trial data from SURMOUNT and STEP studies.

All data stays on your device. We don't require sign-ups, and we don't store your health information on any server. Your progress tracker saves data locally in your browser using localStorage, so only you can see it.

We're based in the UK and our tools are designed specifically for UK users — supporting stone & lbs by default, referencing NHS guidelines, using NICE-approved medication data, and linking to GPhC-registered pharmacies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.

Is 10mg Mounjaro more effective than Wegovy?

Not necessarily. Clinical trials showed Mounjaro 10mg resulted in approximately 19.5% average weight loss, while Wegovy 2.4mg showed approximately 14.9%. However, individual results vary widely. Your response depends on your body, lifestyle adherence, and overall health. A prescriber will recommend the most suitable option based on your personal circumstances, not on cost alone.

Why is Mounjaro sometimes cheaper than Wegovy in private UK pharmacies?

Pricing varies between private providers based on their supply costs, pharmacy margins, and service model. There's no fixed UK price — different pharmacies charge different amounts. Compare providers, but prioritise clinical suitability and regulatory registration (GPhC) over lowest price. Always use a registered pharmacy.

Will the NHS cover Mounjaro or Wegovy for me?

Possibly, but access is limited and regional. You'd need referral to a specialist tier 3/4 weight management service through your GP. Waiting lists can be many months or years depending on your area and local ICB funding. Private online prescription is usually faster but costs money. Ask your GP about NHS availability in your area.

What's the difference between GLP-1 and GIP+GLP-1 in simple terms?

Both activate natural hunger-regulating pathways. GLP-1 (Wegovy) acts on one pathway. Mounjaro (GIP+GLP-1) acts on two pathways simultaneously, which may explain slightly higher average weight loss in trials. Both work alongside diet and exercise. Your individual response is what matters most.

How long does a 10mg Mounjaro KwikPen last?

Each Mounjaro KwikPen contains four weekly doses (4 weeks supply). At 10mg per week, you'll need approximately 13 pens per year if you stay on that dose. Some people titrate higher to 12.5mg or 15mg, which would adjust the timeline. Discuss your treatment plan with your prescriber.
