What is 63kg in Stone and Pounds?

63kg converts to 9 stone and 13 pounds (9st 13lbs) in UK measurements. However, whether this weight is healthy for you depends entirely on your height — the same weight can give very different BMI values depending on how tall you are. Your BMI is the key measure used by the NHS to assess whether your weight is in a healthy range. Use our free BMI calculator above to find your personal BMI instantly, or read on to see what BMI 63kg gives at common UK adult heights.

What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).

While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.

Below 18.5Underweight
18.5 – 24.9Healthy
25 – 29.9Overweight
30+Obese

The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.

What BMI Does 63kg Give at Different Heights?

At 63kg (9st 13lbs), your BMI depends directly on your height. Here's what BMI this weight produces at six common UK adult heights:

  • 160cm (5ft 3in): BMI 24.6 — Healthy weight (NHS category)
  • 165cm (5ft 5in): BMI 23.1 — Healthy weight
  • 170cm (5ft 7in): BMI 21.9 — Healthy weight
  • 175cm (5ft 9in): BMI 20.6 — Healthy weight
  • 180cm (5ft 11in): BMI 19.4 — Healthy weight
  • 185cm (6ft 1in): BMI 18.4 — Healthy weight

Across all these heights, 63kg falls into the healthy weight range according to NHS guidelines. The weight converter on this page lets you switch between kg, stone, and pounds instantly — useful if you need to track your weight in different units.

NHS BMI Categories and Limitations

The NHS defines a healthy BMI as 18.5 to 24.9 for most UK adults. At 63kg, you're well within this range at typical adult heights. However, BMI is not the complete picture. BMI does not account for muscle mass — muscular individuals may have a high BMI but low body fat. Waist circumference also matters: the NHS recommends keeping waist measurements below 94cm (men) or 80cm (women) to reduce health risks. For adults of South Asian, Chinese, Black African, or Black Caribbean heritage, lower BMI thresholds apply — your GP can discuss what's healthy for your ethnicity and individual health profile.

All data stays on your device. We don't require sign-ups, and we don't store your health information on any server. Your progress tracker saves data locally in your browser using localStorage, so only you can see it.

We're based in the UK and our tools are designed specifically for UK users — supporting stone & lbs by default, referencing NHS guidelines, using NICE-approved medication data, and linking to GPhC-registered pharmacies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.

How do I convert 63kg to stone and pounds?

Divide 63 by 6.35029 to get stone (9.93 stone), then multiply the decimal (0.93) by 14 to get pounds (13lbs). Result: 9 stone and 13 pounds. Our free weight converter on this page does this instantly.

Is 63kg a healthy weight?

Whether 63kg is healthy depends on your height. At most adult heights, 63kg gives a BMI in the healthy range (18.5–24.9). Use our BMI calculator above to check your personal BMI, then discuss the result with your GP for personalised advice.

What should my weight be if I'm 170cm tall?

For 170cm (5ft 7in), a healthy weight range is roughly 53–72kg (8st 5lbs to 11st 5lbs). At 63kg, you'd have a BMI of 21.9, which is comfortably in the healthy range. Your ideal weight also depends on muscle mass, frame size, and individual health factors.

Does 63kg count as overweight?

No — at 63kg, you fall into the healthy weight category across typical UK adult heights. The NHS overweight threshold (BMI 25–29.9) starts around 73–85kg depending on height. Waist circumference is also important alongside BMI for assessing health risk.

What if I'm of South Asian or Black African heritage?

The NHS recommends lower BMI thresholds for these groups due to higher health risks at similar BMI levels. South Asian adults should aim for BMI 18.5–22.9; Black African and Caribbean adults may also benefit from lower targets. Discuss your personal healthy weight range with your GP.
