71 Kilos in Stones and Pounds — What's Your BMI?
71 kilograms converts to 11 stone and 3.2 pounds in UK measurements. However, whether this weight is healthy for you depends entirely on your height. Your BMI (body mass index) tells you if 71kg falls into the healthy, overweight, or obese category according to NHS guidelines. Use our free BMI calculator above to check your personal BMI instantly by entering your height, or see example BMI values below for common heights.

What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).
While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.
The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.
71kg BMI at Different Heights
At 71 kilos in stone, your BMI varies significantly depending on height. Here's how 71kg translates to BMI across typical adult heights:
- 5ft 4in (163cm): BMI 30.1 — Obese (Class I)
- 5ft 6in (168cm): BMI 28.8 — Overweight
- 5ft 8in (173cm): BMI 27.4 — Overweight
- 5ft 10in (178cm): BMI 26.2 — Overweight
- 6ft 0in (183cm): BMI 25.2 — Healthy weight
- 6ft 2in (188cm): BMI 24.3 — Healthy weight
These examples show how crucial height is when interpreting weight. To convert kilograms to stone accurately for your own measurements, use the weight converter on this page, then calculate your exact BMI using our free BMI calculator.

NHS BMI Categories and Limitations
The NHS defines healthy BMI as 18.5 to 24.9. At 71kg in stone measurements, you fall into the overweight or obese category only if you're shorter than 5ft 8in. However, BMI has important limitations: it doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat, so athletes or very muscular individuals may have a higher BMI without excess body fat. BMI also doesn't account for where fat is stored — waist circumference matters too. For South Asian, Chinese, Black African, or Black Caribbean adults, the NHS recommends lower thresholds (healthy BMI 18.5–22.9). Your GP can give personalised advice about what your BMI means for your individual health.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.
How do I convert 71 kilos to stone and pounds manually?
Divide 71 by 6.35029 to get stone (11.19 stone). Multiply the decimal (0.19) by 14 to get pounds (2.66 lbs). So 71kg = 11 stone 2.66 lbs, or approximately 11 stone 3 lbs. Our free weight converter above does this instantly for any weight.
Is 71kg a healthy weight?
It depends on your height. At 71kg, a BMI of 25.2 (healthy) requires a height of 6ft 0in or taller. If you're shorter, your BMI will be higher. Use our BMI calculator on this page to check your personal result — your GP can then advise based on your individual circumstances.
What's the healthy weight range for my height if I'm 71kg?
At 71kg, if you're 5ft 8in tall, you're in the overweight category. The healthy range for 5ft 8in is approximately 50–68kg (7st 12lbs to 10st 10lbs). If you're 6ft 0in, you're in the healthy range. Use our weight converter and BMI calculator to check your own height.
Does 71 kilos mean I need to lose weight?
Not necessarily — it depends on your height, age, muscle mass, and overall health. BMI is one screening tool, but it has limitations. Factors like waist circumference, fitness level, and medical conditions matter too. Your GP can assess whether weight loss would benefit your health and recommend appropriate next steps.
Can I use 71kg to stone conversions for fitness goals?
Yes. If you're tracking weight loss or fitness progress, converting between kg and stone helps you understand progress in familiar UK units. Our free progress tracker lets you log weight changes in either measurement and see your journey over time.
