80.5 kg to lbs — BMI and Health Context

80.5 kg equals approximately 177.4 lbs in imperial measurements. However, what matters for your health isn't just the weight itself — it's your BMI (body mass index), which combines your weight with your height. Your BMI at 80.5 kg ranges from overweight to obese depending on how tall you are. Use our free BMI calculator above to find your exact BMI, then check where you fall on the NHS health scale. Understanding this context helps you see whether your current weight aligns with NHS healthy weight guidelines for your height.

What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).

While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.

Below 18.5Underweight
18.5 – 24.9Healthy
25 – 29.9Overweight
30+Obese

The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.

80.5 kg BMI at Different Heights

At 80.5 kg, your BMI varies significantly based on your height. Here are the BMI values at common UK heights, along with the corresponding NHS category:

  • 5ft 2in (158 cm): BMI 32.6 — Obese (Class I)
  • 5ft 4in (163 cm): BMI 30.2 — Obese (Class I)
  • 5ft 6in (168 cm): BMI 28.2 — Overweight
  • 5ft 8in (173 cm): BMI 26.9 — Overweight
  • 5ft 10in (178 cm): BMI 25.5 — Overweight
  • 6ft 0in (183 cm): BMI 24.1 — Healthy weight

Notice how the same weight (80.5 kg) produces different health categories depending on height. This is why using a metric like kg to stone conversion alone isn't enough — height matters just as much.

NHS BMI Categories and What They Mean

The NHS defines healthy weight as a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9. At 80.5 kg, only adults taller than approximately 6 feet fall into the healthy weight range. For South Asian, Chinese, Black African, or Black Caribbean adults, NHS guidance recommends even lower thresholds — a healthy BMI starts at 18.5 but overweight begins at 23, not 25. It's important to note that BMI has limitations: it doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat, so athletic individuals may have a higher BMI without excess body fat. Your GP can provide personalised advice about whether your weight is healthy for your individual circumstances and medical history.

How We Built These Tools

Every calculator and guide on myweightcheck is built with accuracy and transparency in mind. Our BMI calculator uses the standard WHO formula with NHS-aligned category thresholds. Our GLP-1 projections are modelled on published clinical trial data from SURMOUNT and STEP studies.

All data stays on your device. We don't require sign-ups, and we don't store your health information on any server. Your progress tracker saves data locally in your browser using localStorage, so only you can see it.

We're based in the UK and our tools are designed specifically for UK users — supporting stone & lbs by default, referencing NHS guidelines, using NICE-approved medication data, and linking to GPhC-registered pharmacies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.

What is 80.5 kg in stones and pounds?

80.5 kg converts to approximately 12 stone 9 pounds (or 12st 9lbs). To convert kilograms to stone, divide by 6.35. Our free weight converter above can calculate this instantly in all three units — kg, stone, and lbs.

Is 80.5 kg overweight?

Whether 80.5 kg is overweight depends entirely on your height. At shorter heights (under 5ft 6in), it's likely to fall into the obese category. At taller heights (over 5ft 10in), it may be overweight or even healthy weight. Use our BMI calculator to find your exact category based on your personal height.

What's the healthy weight range at my height if I weigh 80.5 kg?

The healthy weight range (BMI 18.5–24.9) varies by height. At 5ft 6in it's roughly 47–63 kg. At 5ft 10in it's roughly 51–69 kg. At 6ft 0in it's roughly 55–74 kg. Your GP or our BMI calculator can show your personal healthy range.

Why does BMI matter more than just the number on the scales?

BMI combines weight with height, giving a more meaningful health indicator than weight alone. Two people weighing 80.5 kg can have very different health risks depending on their height. BMI also helps identify whether excess weight increases your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, or other weight-related conditions.

Can I lose weight effectively at 80.5 kg?

Yes. Even a 5–clinically studied weight loss (4–8 kg) can improve blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar control. The NHS recommends losing 0.5–1 kg per week through a combination of reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Track your progress with our free progress tracker, and speak to your GP for personalised guidance.
