86 Kilos to Stones and Pounds — What's Your BMI?
86 kilograms equals 13 stone and 8 pounds in UK measurements. However, your BMI depends entirely on your height — the same weight gives a very different BMI for a 5ft 2in person than for a 6ft 2in person. Below, we've shown what BMI 86kg gives you at six common UK heights, along with the NHS health category each falls into. Use our free BMI calculator above to find your exact BMI instantly, or use the weight converter to switch between kg, stone, and lbs.

What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).
While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.
The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.
86kg BMI at Different Heights
86 kilograms (13 stone 8 pounds) produces different BMI results depending on height. Here's what your BMI would be at six typical UK heights:
- At 5ft 2in (157cm): BMI 32.2 — Obese (Class I) according to NHS guidelines
- At 5ft 6in (168cm): BMI 27.8 — Overweight (just below the 30 threshold)
- At 5ft 10in (178cm): BMI 23.3 — Healthy weight range
- At 6ft 0in (183cm): BMI 21.4 — Healthy weight range
- At 6ft 2in (188cm): BMI 19.8 — Healthy weight range
- At 6ft 4in (193cm): BMI 18.5 — Healthy weight range (lower boundary)

Understanding NHS BMI Categories and Limitations
The NHS uses these BMI categories for adults: below 18.5 is underweight, 18.5–24.9 is healthy weight, 25–29.9 is overweight, 30–34.9 is obese (Class I), 35–39.9 is obese (Class II), and 40+ is severely obese. However, BMI has important limitations — it doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat, so athletes may have high BMI but low body fat. It also doesn't account for where fat is stored; waist circumference matters too. For adults of South Asian, Chinese, Black African, or Black Caribbean heritage, the NHS recommends lower BMI thresholds due to higher health risks at the same BMI. Your GP can discuss what your BMI means for your individual health.

All data stays on your device. We don't require sign-ups, and we don't store your health information on any server. Your progress tracker saves data locally in your browser using localStorage, so only you can see it.
We're based in the UK and our tools are designed specifically for UK users — supporting stone & lbs by default, referencing NHS guidelines, using NICE-approved medication data, and linking to GPhC-registered pharmacies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.
What is 86kg in stones and pounds?
86 kilograms equals 13 stone and 8 pounds (or 13st 8lbs). To convert kilograms to stone, divide by 6.35029. Use our weight converter above to switch instantly between kg, stone, and pounds.
Is 86kg a healthy weight?
That depends on your height. At 5ft 10in, 86kg gives a BMI of 23.3 (healthy). At 5ft 2in, it gives a BMI of 32.2 (obese). Use our free BMI calculator to find your exact BMI and NHS health category.
How do I convert kilos in stone and pounds manually?
Divide kilograms by 6.35 to get stone. Then multiply any decimal by 14 to get pounds. For example: 86 ÷ 6.35 = 13.55 stone. 0.55 × 14 = 7.7 pounds. So 86kg ≈ 13st 8lbs.
What counts as overweight according to the NHS?
According to NHS guidelines, overweight is a BMI of 25–29.9. However, your BMI category depends on your height. For South Asian, Chinese, Black African, or Black Caribbean adults, the NHS uses lower thresholds (overweight starts at BMI 23).
Should I lose weight if I'm 86kg?
Weight recommendations are individual and depend on your height, health conditions, and overall fitness. Your GP can advise whether weight loss is appropriate for you. Our BMI calculator can help you see where you fall on the NHS scale, and our weight loss calculator can show projected outcomes if you're considering lifestyle changes.
