Female Height and Weight Chart — UK Health Reference

A female height and weight chart helps you understand what a healthy weight range is for your height according to NHS guidelines. In the UK, healthy weight is defined by BMI (body mass index) rather than a single target weight, because two people of the same height may have different healthy weight ranges depending on muscle mass and body composition. This guide provides reference ranges for UK adult women and explains how to use them alongside NHS health advice.

What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).

While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.

Below 18.5Underweight
18.5 – 24.9Healthy
25 – 29.9Overweight
30+Obese

The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.

Healthy Weight Ranges for UK Women by Height

Healthy weight in the UK is defined as a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 according to NHS guidelines. The chart below shows approximate healthy weight ranges for adult women at different heights. Remember that these are reference ranges only — your individual healthy weight depends on your age, muscle mass, frame size, and any existing health conditions.

  • 5ft 0in (152cm): approximately 45–60 kg (7st 0lb–9st 6lb)
  • 5ft 2in (157cm): approximately 48–64 kg (7st 8lb–10st 1lb)
  • 5ft 4in (163cm): approximately 52–68 kg (8st 3lb–10st 10lb)

Important Context About Weight Charts

Weight charts are a screening tool, not a personalised medical assessment. Your GP can provide tailored health advice based on your individual circumstances. For women of South Asian, Black African, Caribbean, or Chinese heritage, NHS guidance recommends lower BMI thresholds due to higher health risks at lower BMI levels — discuss this with your GP if it applies to you. Waist circumference also matters: for women, increased health risk begins above 80cm (31.5in) and high risk above 88cm (34.5in).

If you're concerned about your weight or health, speak to your GP rather than relying solely on a chart. Use our free weight converter to switch between kg, stone, and pounds, and try our GLP-1 weight loss calculator if you're exploring weight management options with medical support.

How We Built These Tools

Every calculator and guide on myweightcheck is built with accuracy and transparency in mind. Our BMI calculator uses the standard WHO formula with NHS-aligned category thresholds. Our GLP-1 projections are modelled on published clinical trial data from SURMOUNT and STEP studies.

All data stays on your device. We don't require sign-ups, and we don't store your health information on any server. Your progress tracker saves data locally in your browser using localStorage, so only you can see it.

We're based in the UK and our tools are designed specifically for UK users — supporting stone & lbs by default, referencing NHS guidelines, using NICE-approved medication data, and linking to GPhC-registered pharmacies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.

What is the healthy weight range for a woman who is 5ft 5in tall?

For a woman who is 5ft 5in (165cm) tall, the healthy BMI range of 18.5–24.9 corresponds to approximately 50–67 kg (7st 12lb–10st 7lb). This is a reference range based on NHS BMI thresholds. Your individual healthy weight also depends on muscle mass, frame size, and medical history. Your GP can advise you on what's healthy for you personally.

Why don't weight charts give a single target weight?

Because weight alone doesn't tell the full story. Two women of the same height and weight can have different body compositions — one may have more muscle (which is denser than fat) and be healthier. BMI provides a range rather than a fixed number. Also, factors like age, genetics, and medical conditions affect what's healthy for each individual.

Are weight charts the same for all women?

NHS weight guidance applies to all adult women in the UK, but ethnicity affects recommended thresholds. Women of South Asian, Black African, Caribbean, or Chinese heritage face higher health risks at lower BMI levels, so their recommended BMI ranges start from 18.5–22.9 rather than 18.5–24.9. Always discuss your personal health with your GP.

How can I find my healthy weight if my height is between two measurements on a chart?

Use our free BMI calculator on this page — enter your exact height in cm and your current weight in kg, and it will show you your personal BMI and the exact healthy weight range for you. You can also use the weight converter to switch between metric and imperial measurements.

Should I aim for the lower or upper end of a healthy weight range?

Neither is inherently "better" — healthy weight varies between individuals based on frame size, muscle mass, and personal factors. The entire 18.5–24.9 BMI range is considered healthy by NHS guidelines. Focus on how you feel, your energy levels, and health markers like blood pressure rather than aiming for a specific number. Your GP can help you set realistic, health-focused goals.
