Height Chart for Weight — Find Your Healthy Range
A height chart for weight shows the healthy weight range you should aim for based on your height. Using NHS guidelines, we can calculate whether your current weight falls within a healthy range for your specific height. Rather than using a fixed number, a height and weight chart accounts for how your body is distributed across your frame — taller people naturally weigh more than shorter people. Your GP or a weight management professional can use your height and weight together to assess your overall health, alongside measurements like waist circumference and lifestyle factors. Use our free BMI calculator to find your personal healthy weight range based on your exact height in just seconds.

What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).
While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.
The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.
Healthy Weight Range by Height (UK)
Your healthy weight range depends entirely on your height in centimetres. The NHS uses BMI (Body Mass Index) as the standard screening tool, which divides your weight by your height squared. For most UK adults, a healthy BMI falls between 18.5 and 24.9 — though lower thresholds apply if you're of South Asian, Chinese, Black African, or Black Caribbean heritage (18.5 to 22.9).
To calculate your healthy weight range:
- Lower bound: multiply 18.5 × your height in metres squared
- Upper bound: multiply 24.9 × your height in metres squared
For example, at 5ft 8in (1.73m), a healthy weight range is approximately 55.4 kg to 74.5 kg (8st 10lbs to 11st 10lbs). Our free weight converter makes it easy to switch between kg, stone, and pounds — helping you understand what these numbers mean in the measurements you use daily. Remember that BMI doesn't account for muscle mass or where fat is stored, so it's one screening tool among many.

Using Height and Weight for Health Assessment
Your GP combines height and weight data with other health markers to build a complete picture of your health. Waist circumference matters too — the NHS recommends measuring your waist to assess central fat distribution, which carries higher health risks than fat stored elsewhere. For men, a waist over 94cm (37in) signals increased risk; over 102cm (40in) is high risk. For women, over 80cm (31.5in) is increased risk; over 88cm (34.5in) is high risk.
If your current weight is above the healthy range for your height, even a 5–clinically studied weight loss can bring meaningful health benefits including lower blood pressure, improved blood sugar control, and reduced joint strain. Our weight loss calculator can help you explore what weight loss looks like at different stages. Your GP can discuss NHS weight management services in your area, which range from community programmes to specialist support.

How We Built These Tools
Every calculator and guide on myweightcheck is built with accuracy and transparency in mind. Our BMI calculator uses the standard WHO formula with NHS-aligned category thresholds. Our GLP-1 projections are modelled on published clinical trial data from SURMOUNT and STEP studies.
All data stays on your device. We don't require sign-ups, and we don't store your health information on any server. Your progress tracker saves data locally in your browser using localStorage, so only you can see it.
We're based in the UK and our tools are designed specifically for UK users — supporting stone & lbs by default, referencing NHS guidelines, using NICE-approved medication data, and linking to GPhC-registered pharmacies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.
What is the healthy weight for my height in UK measurements?
Your healthy weight range depends on your exact height. For example, at 5ft 6in (168cm), a healthy weight is roughly 8st 6lbs to 11st 4lbs (54–72kg). Use our free BMI calculator above to enter your height and see your personal healthy weight range instantly — it works for all UK heights and shows results in stone, pounds, and kilograms.
How is healthy weight calculated from height?
The NHS uses BMI, which divides your weight (kg) by your height (metres) squared. A healthy BMI is 18.5–24.9 for most adults, lower for certain ethnic groups. You can calculate it manually or use our free BMI calculator on this page, which does the maths instantly and tells you whether your weight falls in the healthy range for your height.
Does height chart for weight apply to children?
No — children use age and sex-specific growth charts, not adult BMI categories. The NHS recommends using the UK90 growth reference charts for children. Always speak to your GP or health visitor about your child's weight — they can assess it properly using the correct childhood growth standards, not adult height-weight charts.
What if I'm above the healthy weight range for my height?
If your weight is above the healthy range, your GP can discuss evidence-based support options with you. These range from lifestyle changes (diet and exercise) through NHS community weight management programmes to specialist services. Even a 5–10% reduction in body weight brings measurable health benefits.
Should I use height-weight charts or BMI?
Both are useful — height-weight charts show you your target range visually, while BMI gives a precise number. BMI has limitations (it doesn't account for muscle mass), so use them together with waist measurement and advice from your GP. Our weight converter and BMI calculator help you understand both measurements in UK units.
