What Is the Ideal Weight for a 6'2 Male?

For a man who is 6'2" (188 cm) tall, the healthy weight range according to NHS guidelines is approximately 76–102 kg (168–225 lbs or 12 stone to 16 stone). The ideal weight depends on factors including muscle mass, frame size, and overall health rather than a single number. What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).

While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.

Below 18.5Underweight
18.5 – 24.9Healthy
25 – 29.9Overweight
30+Obese

The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.

Healthy Weight Ranges and NHS Guidelines

The NHS healthy weight range for a 6'2" male is 76–102 kg, which corresponds to a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9. This is calculated based on a healthy BMI multiplied by your height squared. In stone and pounds, this range is approximately 12 stone 0 lbs to 16 stone 1 lb.

However, ideal body weight is not one-size-fits-all. The healthy weight range accounts for variation in muscle mass, bone density, and frame size. A muscular man at 100 kg may have excellent health markers, while another at the same weight may have different health outcomes.

  • Lower end (76 kg / 12 st 0 lbs): Healthy BMI for lighter frame or lower muscle mass
  • Upper end (102 kg / 16 st 1 lb): Healthy BMI accounting for muscle and larger frame
  • Average UK male weight: Approximately 85.7 kg (13 st 7 lbs) — though average does not mean healthy

Use our healthy weight calculator to find your personal healthy weight range based on your individual height and health factors.

Factors That Affect Your Ideal Weight

Several factors influence what the ideal weight for 6'2" actually means for you personally:

  • Muscle mass: Muscle weighs more than fat. Athletes and those with regular strength training may weigh more within the healthy range
  • Frame size: Larger bone structure naturally supports a higher healthy weight than a smaller frame
  • Age: Metabolism changes with age; older men may maintain health at slightly different weights
  • Ethnicity: The NHS recommends lower BMI thresholds for South Asian, Chinese, Black African, and Black Caribbean men due to higher health risks at lower BMI levels
  • Health conditions: Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular health, and other factors affect what weight is ideal for you

Your GP can provide personalised advice on your ideal weight target based on your full health picture, not just height alone.

Every calculator and guide on myweightcheck is built with accuracy and transparency in mind. Our BMI calculator uses the standard WHO formula with NHS-aligned category thresholds. Our GLP-1 projections are modelled on published clinical trial data from SURMOUNT and STEP studies.

All data stays on your device. We don't require sign-ups, and we don't store your health information on any server. Your progress tracker saves data locally in your browser using localStorage, so only you can see it.

We're based in the UK and our tools are designed specifically for UK users — supporting stone & lbs by default, referencing NHS guidelines, using NICE-approved medication data, and linking to GPhC-registered pharmacies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.

What is a healthy BMI for a 6'2" male?

A healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9 according to NHS guidelines. For a 6'2" male, this corresponds to a weight of approximately 76–102 kg (12 stone to 16 stone 1 lb). You can calculate your personal BMI using our free BMI calculator above.

Is there a difference between ideal weight and average UK weight?

Yes. The average UK adult male weighs about 85.7 kg (13 st 7 lbs), but average does not mean healthy. Ideal weight depends on individual factors like muscle mass, frame size, and health conditions. Use our weight converter to compare your weight across kg, stone, and pounds.

Does muscle mass affect ideal weight for 6'2"?

Absolutely. Muscle weighs more than fat, so a muscular 6'2" male may weigh more than someone with higher body fat at the same height and still be in the healthy weight range. BMI has limitations and does not distinguish muscle from fat — your GP can assess your overall health beyond weight.

What weight-related health conditions might affect my ideal weight?

Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease are weight-related health conditions. If you have any of these, your GP may recommend a specific weight target as part of your health management. Losing even 5–10% of body weight can improve these conditions significantly.

How do I know if I'm at a healthy weight for 6'2"?

Check your BMI using our free BMI calculator on this page. A BMI of 18.5–24.9 is healthy for most UK adults. However, waist circumference also matters — ideally under 94 cm for men. For personalised guidance, speak with your GP, especially if you have any weight-related health concerns.
