Ladies Height Weight Chart — Find Your Healthy Weight Range
A healthy weight range depends on your height, age, and individual health factors rather than a single "ideal" number. This UK health guide shows you what a healthy weight looks like at different heights using NHS BMI guidelines, helps you understand what these ranges mean for your health, and explains how to find personalised advice from your GP. What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).
While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.
The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.
Healthy Weight Ranges for Women by Height
The NHS defines a healthy weight as a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 for most UK adults. For South Asian, Chinese, Black African, or Black Caribbean women, the NHS recommends a slightly lower range of 18.5 to 22.9 due to higher health risks at the same BMI. The table below shows approximate healthy weight ranges for common heights:
- 5ft 2in (157cm): 46–60 kg (7st 3lbs–9st 6lbs)
- 5ft 4in (163cm): 50–64 kg (7st 12lbs–10st 1lbs)
- 5ft 6in (168cm): 53–69 kg (8st 5lbs–10st 12lbs)
- 5ft 8in (173cm): 57–75 kg (8st 12lbs–11st 11lbs)
- 5ft 10in (178cm): 61–80 kg (9st 8lbs–12st 8lbs)
These are broad ranges — individual health needs vary. Factors like muscle mass, bone density, age, and personal health history all affect what a healthy weight means for you. Use the free weight converter on this page to switch between kg, stone, and pounds.

Understanding BMI and Weight Management
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a useful screening tool calculated from your weight and height, but it has important limitations. BMI does not distinguish between muscle and fat — athletes may have a higher BMI despite having low body fat. It also doesn't account for where fat is stored; waist circumference matters for cardiovascular health.
If you're concerned about your weight or want personalised guidance on weight management, your GP can assess your individual health risks and discuss options with you. They may refer you to NHS weight management services or discuss lifestyle changes, and in some cases, prescription weight loss medications may be appropriate depending on your health needs and BMI.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.
What is considered a healthy weight for women in the UK?
According to NHS guidelines, a healthy BMI for most UK women is between 18.5 and 24.9. For women of South Asian, Chinese, Black African, or Black Caribbean heritage, the NHS recommends 18.5 to 22.9. However, healthy weight is individual — your age, muscle mass, medical history, and genetics all matter. Your GP can provide personalised guidance.
How do I calculate my healthy weight range from my height?
Use this formula: multiply your height in metres by itself, then multiply by 18.5 (lower healthy bound) and 24.9 (upper healthy bound). For example, at 1.65m: lower = 18.5 × (1.65)² = 50.3 kg; upper = 24.9 × (1.65)² = 67.7 kg. Our free BMI calculator above does this instantly.
Is there a single "ideal weight" for women?
No. Ideal weight varies significantly based on individual factors including height, age, muscle mass, bone density, genetics, and personal health goals. BMI is a useful screening tool, but it's just one indicator of health. Your GP can help determine what's healthy for you specifically.
What should I do if I'm concerned about my weight?
Start by speaking with your GP, who can assess your individual health. They may discuss lifestyle changes, refer you to NHS weight management services, or — if appropriate based on your BMI and health conditions — discuss options including prescription weight management support. Track your progress with our free progress tracker.
How do I convert between stone, pounds, and kilograms?
Use our free weight converter on this page to switch between units instantly. Or use these formulas: 1 stone = 6.35 kg; 1 kg = 0.157 stone; 1 kg = 2.2 lbs. For example, 10 stone = 63.5 kg or 140 lbs.
