Semaglutide Weight Loss Dosage Chart — Wegovy ML Doses
Wegovy (semaglutide) is a prescription-only once-weekly weight loss injection licensed in the UK. The medication comes in five dose strengths, escalated over several weeks to allow your body to adjust and minimise side effects. This guide shows the exact semaglutide dosage chart in millilitres, the timing between dose increases, and what to expect at each stage. Wegovy is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that works by reducing appetite and helping you feel fuller after smaller meals. Individual results vary significantly, and a prescriber will assess whether this medication is suitable for you following a clinical assessment.

What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening tool for assessing whether your weight falls within a healthy range. Used by the NHS, GPs, and weight management services across the UK, BMI provides a quick snapshot of your weight relative to your height. The formula is simple: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared (kg/m²).
While BMI isn't a perfect measure — it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution — it remains the standard first step in identifying potential weight-related health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.
The NHS also recommends adjusted thresholds for people of South Asian, Chinese, or Black African heritage — a BMI of 23 or above is classified as overweight, and 27.5 as obese. Our calculator includes this adjustment as a one-click toggle.
Complete Semaglutide Dosage Chart — All Wegovy Doses in ML
Wegovy semaglutide dosing schedule: The medication is escalated gradually over approximately 16 weeks to reach the maximum maintenance dose of 2.4 mg once weekly. Each pre-filled pen contains one dose and is injected under the skin (subcutaneously) once per week, on the same day each week.
- 0.25 mg (0.25 ml) — Weeks 1–4 (starting dose)
- 0.5 mg (0.5 ml) — Weeks 5–8 (first escalation)
- 1 mg (1 ml) — Weeks 9–12 (second escalation)
- 1.7 mg (1.7 ml) — Weeks 13–16 (third escalation)
- 2.4 mg (2.4 ml) — Week 17 onwards (maintenance/maximum dose)
In clinical trials (STEP studies), participants on 2.4 mg semaglutide lost an average of approximately 15% of their body weight over 68 weeks, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. However, weight loss varies between individuals. You can estimate your potential weight loss using our GLP-1 weight loss calculator, and track your progress with our free progress tracker as you progress through the escalation schedule.

Important Dosing Information — What You Need to Know
Minimum time between doses: Always wait at least 7 days (one week) between injections. If you miss a dose, take it within 5 days of the scheduled day to stay on track. After 5 days, skip that dose and resume your normal weekly schedule.
Storage and preparation: Unopened pens must be refrigerated at 2–8°C and kept in their original carton. Once you start using a pen, it can be stored at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 30 days before disposal. Always check the label for your exact dose in milligrams and ml before injecting, and rotate your injection sites (stomach, thigh, or upper arm) each week. Your prescriber or pharmacist will provide full injection training.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about BMI, weight loss medications, and our free UK tools.
What's the difference between Wegovy and Ozempic semaglutide dosing?
Both contain semaglutide, but Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes (doses up to 2 mg) and is not approved for weight loss in the UK. Wegovy is the licensed weight management version, dosed up to 2.4 mg once weekly specifically for weight loss. Never switch between them without prescriber guidance — they have different licensed purposes.
Why is semaglutide weight loss dosage escalated slowly over weeks?
Gradual escalation allows your body to adjust and reduces side effects like nausea and stomach upset. Starting at 0.25 mg and increasing every 4 weeks helps your system adapt to the medication. If you experience side effects at a particular dose, your prescriber may extend the time at that dose before increasing further.
Can I skip doses or pause my semaglutide treatment?
You can pause treatment if needed, but stopping suddenly or skipping doses may reduce effectiveness and increase side effect risk when restarting. Always discuss any changes with your prescriber. If you miss a dose by more than 5 days, skip it and resume your normal weekly schedule — never take a double dose.
How long does a single semaglutide 2.4 mg injection last?
Each 2.4 mg injection lasts exactly one week (7 days). You inject once weekly on the same day. Each pre-filled pen contains one 2.4 ml dose. A standard prescription for maintenance typically provides 4 pens per month, covering 4 weekly injections.
Is semaglutide weight loss dosage the same for everyone?
No. Your prescriber may maintain you on a lower dose (0.5 mg, 1 mg, or 1.7 mg) if you experience side effects or respond well to a lower dose. The 2.4 mg dose is the maximum, but not everyone requires or tolerates the highest dose. Your prescriber will personalise your dosing based on your individual response and tolerance. Use our BMI calculator to establish your baseline, and track your progress throughout your treatment.
